Designer Series: A Moment That Launched My Career

A few years ago, something unexpected happened.

One morning, images of Meghan Markle began circulating around the world. She had just married Prince Harry and stepped out in public wearing a trench dress I had designed.

Within hours the photos were everywhere.

What followed was surreal. Orders started coming in from around the world (still do). That single moment opened doors I never could have predicted and soon after, my work was showing at New York Fashion Week.

That period of my career taught me something that has stayed with me ever since. Thoughtful design matters. When something is made with intention, people notice.

Years later, that same mindset led me to create FOLDS, after seeing the obscene amount of waste and consumerism in fashion.

I wanted to bring the same level of design thinking to something workers wear every single day. Not just scrubs, but garments built with passion and heart. Along with sustainability, of course.

FOLDS is designed for professionals who take pride in what they do and expect the same level of performance from what they wear.

A little about me:

I studied engineering at the University of Calgary, where I earned a Bachelor of Science. My training was rooted in problem solving, systems thinking, and precision. Those principles continue to guide how I design today. My father and mother both worked in clothing manufacturing - I spent a lot of my younger years running around in the factory learning all about clothing.

Today, I am a mother to two young children, a boy and a girl, and building this company has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life.

Thank you for being here and for supporting FOLDS. You'll never know how much I appreciate it.

Nina
